CHAPTER I

THE SUMMONING

Every generation thinks it discovered the thing that's going to destroy the next one. Funny. The monster keeps changing. The sentence doesn't.

New thing hits, old guard flinch. Name it before they know what it is. Uncertainty's hard, but the villain is simple. Draw two horns and you've got your symbol.

CHAPTER II

THE LITANY

Same old engine, same old engine, different hood. Take one real risk and stretch it good, till possibility turns inevitability, anecdote dresses up as probability. Find one case that'll carry the weight, put it on loop till exception feels fate.

Concern becomes fear, fear becomes fact, fact becomes policy, nobody checks back. Because panic has structure, panic has form. First comes the stranger, then comes the storm, then somebody points and the cameras agree. “That's what's happening to society.”

Nah. Show me the denominator.

Concern is not panic, risks can be real, but fear ain't evidence just because you can feel.

CHAPTER III

THE INCANTATION

Make a devil, give the unknown a face!
Make a devil, put the whole damn fear in one place!

Save the children, everybody knows that line.
Yesterday's corruption is tomorrow's ordinary line.

New tool, new threat, same alarm, new tech.
We keep changing the target,
but the panic stays the same.

CHAPTER IV

THE CALIBRATION

Here's the trick, here's the trick: don't swing stupid. Don't hear panic and conclude harmless. Every technology carries affordance, every new power creates new targets. Platforms can manipulate, algorithms can addict, systems can scale exploitation faster than statutes can catch it. That's real.

So measure. Separate signal from spectacle, dose from exposure, cause from correlation, mechanism from posture.

Who's being harmed? How much? By what?

Compared to the baseline we conveniently forgot?

What intervention works? What damage does that do?

Because protecting somebody can become controlling them, too. That's the uncomfortable middle where slogans die. The skeptic can be wrong and so can the terrified guy. You don't beat hysteria by worshipping innovation, you beat it with calibration.

Evidence, revision, calibration.

CHAPTER V

THE INCANTATION, AGAIN

Make a devil! Give the unknown a face!
Make a devil! Put the whole damn fear in one place!

Save the children, turn anxiety divine,
then build a fucking barricade before you measure the decline.

New tool, new threat, same ritual, new flex.
We keep changing the target,
but the panic stays the same.

CHAPTER VI

THE MACHINE

Now here comes the machine. Perfect. We've rehearsed this scene. It doesn't think. It makes us dumb. It steals the work. It ruins the young. Maybe some. Which part? Huh? Under what condition? Give me the mechanism, not the superstition.

Because fire burned villages and cooked the food. Writing killed memory and multiplied truth. Machines took labor and manufactured abundance. Networks spread bullshit and shattered gatekeeper dominance. Every tool inherits the hand and institution. Technology ain't salvation, technology ain't pollution. It's leverage, and leverage makes the question larger.

Who holds it? Who benefits? Who pays? Who gets farther?

Don't ask whether the future feels strange. Ask who gets agency when the interface changes.

Novelty. Concern. Hostility.
Consensus. Disproportion. Control.

We've seen this pattern before. That does not prove the danger is false. Correct. Then what does it prove? That fear doesn't get to skip the experiment. That's the upgrade: not optimism, not cynicism, epistemic discipline.

The ape that panics at rustling grass sometimes survived because the tiger was fast, but take that nervous system, wire it worldwide, give every frightened primate an algorithmic tribe — now whispers become headlines, headlines become feeds, feeds become identity, identity manufactures needs, outrage rewards certainty, nuance loses reach. Everybody's got a pulpit, nobody has to teach.

So cooperation at the apex isn't everybody agrees, it's building institutions where disagreement can breathe, where evidence can change us without humiliation, where “I was wrong” isn't social annihilation, where the stranger isn't flattened into enemy or saint, where uncertainty's a feature, not a weakness we must paint. Because civilization isn't knowing, it's correcting. Again, again, again.

CHAPTER VII

THE UNMAKING

Don't make a devil! Make a better test!
Don't feed the panic! Put the claim under stress!
Real harm? Name it! Real risk? Measure!
Protect what matters without mistaking fear for treasure!

New tool, new world. Yeah.
Uncertainty remains,
but we don't have to keep repeating
the same damn panic again.

The monster was jazz.
The monster was comics.
The monster was television.
The monster was games.
The monster was the internet.

Now the monster can talk back.

Does that frighten you?
Yeah.

That's why we measure.
